The Solitario displays geologic features that span virtually the entire regional history of Trans-Pecos Texas since Cambrian time. The visible structure (cover) is the eroded remnant of the roof of a radially symmetric late Eocene (38 Ma) laccolith. Erosion of the laccolith roof has exposed a remarkably complete stratigraphic section.
